When children understand what they read, they want to read more

Are you ready to give your kids the skills and confidence they need to become lifelong readers?

Welcome Parents!

If you are here, your kid has probably learned how to read! And, you may have thought that if they can read, or sound out the words on the page, then they are now all set to read on their own. Or, at least that’s what you had hoped.

But somewhere along the way, you noticed something—your child struggles to explain what they just read, or reaches for a screen instead of a book—because it’s too hard, or it’s too boring, or it’s too much effort.

When kids become frustrated with reading, just giving them a book to read on their own rarely fixes the problem.

Here’s the truth most people don’t talk about: kids don’t avoid reading because they are lazy—they avoid it because it’s frustrating. When a child can’t understand what they’re reading, even when they are capable of reading and sounding out the words on the page, the book becomes the enemy.

Most kids don’t hate reading. They hate confusion. And, when a child struggles to understand what they’re reading, they stop trying, and stop picking up books. It’s that simple.

1-ON-1 COACHING FOR PARENTS

I coach parents on how to get their kids reading and understanding what they are reading, so that they become lifelong readers. Schools tell parents that kids need to be reading, but they don’t tell parents how to do this with their kids–and it can look different to best support your child. That’s where I come in!
